Meet our Italian Lawyer Delegates at Stern Grove Festival

Join our monthly gathering in honor of our Bridging Leaders Program Italian Lawyer Delegation for the Bajofondo and Si*Sé Concert at the Stern Grove Festival on Sunday, August 3rd. "Internationally acclaimed Bajofondo, a collective of Argentine and Uruguayan artists, defy easy definition, blending the drama and passion of tango music with diverse electronic genres ranging from house, trance and trip hop to dub, drum and bass, and more. New York's Si*Sé has been igniting clubs around the globe with their potent mix of Latin rhythms with electronica, soul, and trip hop. Carol C's smooth vocals and DJ U.F.Low's minimalist beats have made Si*Sé an underground sensation."

Young Professionals International Forum - Green Technology: Global Opportunities and Challenges
Thursday, July 17 at 6:30 PM at World Affairs Council (312 Sutter Street, San Francisco)
With energy prices soaring worldwide and global climate change accelerating, the importance of green technologies like solar and wind energy has never been greater. However, at this early stage, there are more questions than answers in green tech. This panel discussion will bring together four leading experts from the venture capital, scientific, and business communities to offer their perspectives on the outlook for green tech, and the political and economic impact for countries that become green tech leaders versus those that fall behind.
Advanced registration is recommended for guaranteed seating. However, pre-registration is not required and walk-ins on the day of this program are welcome: Free members, $15 non-members

Lori Cook, Health Program Planner for the San Francisco Department of Public Health-Housing and Urban Health, will join us to discuss the process of designing effective programs geared toward measurable success. Cook will guide us through the steps of program design generally, highlighting best practices and common pitfalls. Please come prepared to share your own best practice information and to brainstorm potential program ideas for SFIP. (Please bring a bottle of wine, plus $5 donation requested for light snacks).

Edith Coliver Festival of Cultures/Cal Day: Springfest

Join us at the 2008 Edith Coliver Festival of Cultures at International House (aka: Spring-Fest), a fantabulous, celebration of people and their cultures around the globe. Last year, I-House was bursting at the seams with 2,500 plus attendees, who were treated to tantalizing delicacies from Armenia to Zambia. Performances of music and dance from all corners of the world occurred on five stages. Booths offering information, jewelry and handicrafts filled I-House from the front steps to the Auditorium. Admission is $7 per person.

Mural Tour in the Mission District

Precita Eyes Mural Arts will lead the cultural and historic walking tours of the Mission's murals along Mission St. and the 24th St. corridor. The tour should last about 2 hours and will include a brief slide presentation on the history and process of mural art and tour of over 70 murals within a 6-block walk. The SFIP Alumni Reunion

The week of July 1, 2007 --- San Francisco Area

This week will feature the Larkspur-Corte Madera Independence Day parade and the 4th of July barbeque hosted by David and Lorna Strand. Throughout the week, participants will be able to visit former mentors, friends, and host families. We will arrange optional educational and social activities as well.

The weekend of July 6 and 7 --- Monterey/Carmel
For this week-end we have reserved a beautiful craftsman-style lodge at the Asilomar Conference Grounds. Asilomar is located on the Central Coast, on the beach at Pacific Grove, between Carmel and Monterey, about 120 miles south of San Francisco. We will take excursions to the spectacular Big Sur coast, quaint stores and pubs in the exceptionally charming town of Carmel, and the Monterey Aquarium.

On Saturday, July 7 SFIP will host a
panel discussion on Diversity and Leadership at Asilomar. Our goal is to explore the experiences of our participants through the framework of diversity and leadership, and learn about the impact of their work on their communities. Some of our panel members will include:

Birute Karaleviciene, Lithuania
In 1994, she trained at the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and today she works as the Chief Specialist of the Regional Economical and Social Division, Regional Development Department of the Panevezys County Governor’s Administration.

Nanda Soobben, South Africa
Nanda a graphic artist, muralist and political cartoonist, was the only published black political cartoonist during the apartheid period. In 1997, Nanda trained at the the San Francisco Art Institute and he addressed the World Affairs Council of Northern California to share his experience working as a Black Political Cartoonist during the apartheid. Today he is a dynamic creative director and founder of the Centre for Fine Art Animation & Design in South Africa.


Jihad Abu Zneid, Palestine
In 1993, Jihad came to San Francisco for professional training in human rights at Amnesty International. Today she is a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council and President of a women's refugee camp.

From July 10-11 – Lake Tahoe
SFIP will lead sightseeing trips near Lake Tahoe and to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Please register online to make arrangements to stay with a host family near the Strand family.

For the past 50 years the CIF and CIPUSA programs have made a lasting impact on the lives we encountered as participants of the programs, the communities we later served when we returned home, and of course the greatest personal impression was left on ourselves as we experienced a new world around us.
